Product Hunt launches have generated hundreds of paying customers for SaaS products I've built. But a PH launch without preparation generates almost nothing. Here's the complete playbook for a launch that actually works.
2 Weeks Before Launch
- Create your Product Hunt maker account and warm it up (like, comment on other products for 2 weeks)
- Find a "hunter" — someone with a large PH following who can post your product (a warm intro to your launch audience)
- Prepare your product page: headline, tagline, description, screenshots (5), thumbnail (240x240px), gallery images
- Record a 2-minute demo video — products with videos get 30% more upvotes
- Build your "launch squad" — 50–100 people who commit to upvote, comment, and share on launch day
Launch Day Execution
Product Hunt resets at 12:01am PST. Launch at exactly 12:01am to maximize your 24-hour window. In the first 2 hours: send your launch squad a single message with the direct link and ask them to vote and leave a genuine comment. Early momentum determines your final ranking.
Post in relevant communities: relevant Slack groups, Discord servers, Twitter/X, LinkedIn. Be authentic — share the story behind the product, not just "go upvote my thing."
The First Comment
Your first comment on your own post should introduce yourself and the story behind the product. Not a feature list — a human story. "I built this because I was spending 3 hours a week on [pain]. After 6 months of building in the evenings, here it is." Authentic stories get replies and engagement.
Email Your Waitlist
Send an email to your entire waitlist the morning of launch: "We're live on Product Hunt today. Your support means everything." Give them the direct PH link. Waitlist subscribers who are genuinely excited will vote — and they're already pre-qualified customers.
Build a SaaS Ready for Its Launch Moment
I take 2 clients per month. Ship your SaaS in 2–4 weeks with a developer who has done it 350+ times.
Start on Fiverr →After Launch
Follow up with everyone who commented with a personal response. Anyone who says "I've been looking for something like this" — reach out directly and offer a free trial or demo. The comments section of a successful PH launch is the most qualified lead list you'll ever have access to.
